digipak ideas

this is how my digipak needs to look i will create my digipak on publisher, showing the outside and inside seperatley

magazine advert ideas

These are the two main ideas i would like to use for my magazine poster/advert, as they are very simple with a picture of the artist covering the whole surface with either lyrics or quotes by the artist. I think i will have a picture of either the artist or a a person, and use some of the lyrics which have meaning this wil hopefully tie the picture abnd the lyrics together.

new cast list for 'beat it'

Mike Davies - Mike will be playing the part of the main singer in the music video. He is the main focus in the music video as he is the one who performs the most. He also plays the guitar at some points within the video. Mike will also be taking part in the shots of the band setting up and preparing for the live performance.

Danny Evans - Danny mainly plays the guitar within the video but also has a part in the chorus of singing the main words along with Mike 'beat it'. Danny will also be taking part in the shots of the band setting up and preparing for the live performance.

Otis Holmes - Otis is the drummer in the band and plays a large part in the preformance. Otis will also be taking part in the shots of the band setting up and preparing for the live performance.Towards the end of the video it will show the final lead up to the live preformance so there will be a shot of an audience of people waiting for them to come on stage.

ideas for new music video

the idea for our new music video is it will be set in a grimey backstage area wth band performing the song warming up for a live song, the whole video however will not jusat be of the band perfroming the song there will also be shots of them relaxing and setting up the stage gear, this will show what really happens backstage before a live performance. the way we will shoot it is we will film the band miming to a backround track of the song then we will edit the real song onto the video and line up the miming with the real song.
the main message of the video is to show that to become a rockstar you have to start somewhere thats why we filmed it on a grimey location to show that its not all money and spotlights it shows the harsh reality of the music industry.

song change

we did originally have the song 'mad world' by gary jules but as we started filming we realised it wasnt coming together as good as we originally thought, so we have come to a decision to change the song to 'beat it' by micheal jackson. we thought this would be easier to film as there is a band we have acess to and they will be able to mime the song which will make the video look alot more professional.

The genre of the new song is still along the lines of mad world with rock but it is a bit more up tempo and is about defeat ansd courage, it is also not as dark as mad world which is about the world and what is going on in the world, the song beat however is alot more racy and it gets you going as soon as you hear the first beats of the track.
our target audience for our song will have to stay the same from our previous song as alot of teenagers nowadays liten to aged music like micheal jackson.

these are the lyrics to the new song

They told him don't you ever come around here
Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it

You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it

They're out to get you, better leave while you can
Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can
So beat it, just beat it

You have to show them that you're really not scared
You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare
They'll kick you, then they beat you,
Then they'll tell you it's fair
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Beat it, beat it, beat it

Beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or who's right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Beat it, beat it, beat it

Beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or who's right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Just beat it, beat it
Beat it, beat it, beat it

magazine adverts

these two magazine digipak adverts are what i will be aiming mine to look like as it has the band name as the main focal point and it gives reviews and info about the cd release and info about the songs. i also like how there isnt a picture used in either of these adverts as just an album cover is used on one and the other is just the iconic stone roses symbol which is powerful enough as the stone roses are a founding band in the music industry as they have influenced the likes of oasis and the verve.

digipak ideas

these are a few digipak ideas that i might follow when i create my digipak, i like the way the desert rose cd digipak is set out with the two picture panels and the cd in the middle, i think this is the digipak i will imitate as our song will only have the one cd.

synopsis

The Music video we have chosen is based around a narrative which portrays the messages that the song sends out about values and moods it creates rather than focusing solely on the artist itself. The Video is set in various locations involved with everyday life seen through a series of flashbacks throughout the narrative showing what the protagonist’s life was actually like.

The narrative is centralised around the protagonist, 18 year old Robert Roswell who has been knocked down by a careless driver who leaves Robert Dying all alone in the middle of the road. On his death bed the audience are given a glimpse into his sad and lonely life seen through a range of flashbacks. In the last scene the narrative comes back to the present were we see him close his eyes for the final time.

We have chosen to use a narrative to portray the song because we feel that it will have a more powerful and effective impact on the target audience and also will create a melancholy and sombre mood to better compliment our song choice.

locations

Location list

Wyke college- the front of the college is a prfect location for the music video as t reinforces the verisimilitude of the music video as it is a realistic place for the events to happen. alos our target audiece can relate to the situation and surroundings.

Dining room- this location is neccassary for the family eating scene to show how the familymistreats the protagonists. the dining room needs to really have the protagonist singled out and centred at the headof the table to symbolise his loneliness.

Quiet street-for this scene various health and safety issues come into play. as we are runing somebody over, attention could be brought to the fact that passers by may think there has been a real accidents to aviod getting in trouble with the police we ether need ot film at an early time or imform the police and the public in the surrounding area.

Function room-This room dosnt have to be to big as we only really need to use one of the walls to create the effect we are looking for. As we are having a cake with a candle this is a health and safety issue of either getting burnt or causing a fire.

Genre

Researching the genre of the song 'Mad World' was more difficult than I thought because the song has been use under several genres.

The song was it was first written by a band called Tears for Fears who are an English pop rock duo who were mainly mainstreaming in the early 1980s. The genre of the song 'Mad World’ however is Electronic pop or alternative. When released this was tears for fears’ third single and the first one to hit the charts reaching number 3 in the UK in November 1982.

the same song was later covered by Gary Jules who is an American singer songwriter and his cover version of the song mad world was chose to be recorded for the film Donnie darko, it then became the Christmas number 1 in 2003. The genre for this cover of the song is different from the first version as it is in the soft rock genre and has been labelled as a feel good song.

Gary Jules’ version of the song was also used in the trailer for computer game gears of war. The genre of this video game is a third person shooter which is again completely different than the previous two genres covered. When watching the advert for the video game the song seems to almost have an 'watering down' effect and puts a softer feel to the game allowing you to feel for the soldier roaming the deserted streets until me meets his fate at the end of the trailer.the song Mad World is used at the ending of the film Donnie Darko.

Donnie Darko is a Drama/Thriller film about troubled teenagers who is plagued by visions of a large rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes after narrowly escaping a bizarre accident.

finally the song is used in series 5 of the hit American medical drama House. House who is played by Hugh Laurie. The drama is based on House M.D who is a medical genius with abet of a dark past who seems to blame other people for his problems. Most of the episodes revolve around the diagnosis of a primary patient and start with a pre-credit sequence set outside the hospital, showing events leading up to the onset of the patient's symptoms. The typical episode follows the team in their attempts to diagnose and treat the patient's illness, attempts that often fail until the patient's condition is critical.

All of the above represent the song Mad World as it has featured in a film and a medical drama, Donnie Darko and House, The video game trailer for Gears of War and was written and sung by Tears for Fears originally before the cover version reached the Christmas number 1 spot. To produce what is going to happen in the lyrics we have looked at what happens in all of the aspects that it features in and made our own synopsis.

Music videos

the music video we are making is based around a narrative which portrays the messages which can be seen in the music videos above, it will present the values and mood of the song rather than focusing on the artist. The Video will be set in various different locations that are involved with everyday life seen through a series of flashbacks throughout the narrative. We have chosen to use a narrative to portray the song because we feel that it will have a more powerful and effective impact on the target audience and also will create a melancholy and sombre mood to better compliment our song choice. the whole idea of this music video compliments the videos above as it is almost a compilation of their styles of filming.
